As you are building up the supplies that you own for baking. There are a few basics to start out with. If you are a new home baker, or just setting up your home’s kitchen shopping for and getting a baking set can get you started.

Have been baking for years? Consider upgrading your bakeware. Maybe you inherited some older baking pans? It’s nice to upgrade. Why? Newer products are of better quality. Nothing bad about grandmas bakeware. Some materials have just improved the quality of the bake…

Recently I upgraded to this bread/loaf pan. And it puts my others to shame! My banana bread from the prepared pan just slipped right out. I heard angels singing! Well, not really but you get it. Right?! It was honestly the best purchase I made! And investment in what I own for baking.

Recommendations for things to own for baking. I hope this list of Bakeware and baking utensils helps you find what you need for baking.

  1. Bakeware Set or this Bakeware Set (Both are perfect for getting started with baking! Or upgrade with a set of bakeware.
  2. Sheet Pans (2) (used for baking cookies).
  3. Loaf Pan (used for baking bread or quick bread).
  4. Muffins/Cupcakes Pan – (2) Standard (1- 12 cup cupcake/muffins pan) (Both used for baking cupcakes or muffins).
  5. Round Cake Pans (2) – used for baking cakes.
  6. Fluted Cake Pan (commonly known as the bundt pan).
  7. 8 x 8 Square Pan (2) (used for brownies and cakes).
  8. 9 x 13 Rectangle Pan (glass) or 9 x 13 non-stick baking pans (used for cakes and cake-like brownies).
  9. Spring Form Pan (used for making cheesecakes…)
  10. Hand Mixer (Used for mixing eggs, and whipping meringue… I own this one). Or this hand mixer with a snap-on storage case.
  11. After years of baking, I finally invested in a Stand Mixer. There are many styles and sizes.
  12. Whisk (used for whisking eggs or slowly mixing flour with baking soda, baking powder, salt…)
  13. Mixing Bowls (used for mixing ingredients).
  14. Measuring Cups Set (my favorite set). Or ones like this set of Measuring Cups (used for measuring dry and wet ingredients).
  15. Measuring Spoons (used for measuring out a teaspoon, tablespoon measurements).
  16. Baking Spatulas (Yes, there is a difference and these are heat resistant).
  17. Baking Spoons for mixing
  18. Silpat I use them for baking cookies. They bake them perfectly every time).
    They replace the need for butter, sprays, and oils…
  19. Parchment Paper (for lining pans or cookie sheets).
  20. Scoops for scooping cookie dough or cupcakes.
  21. Pastry Cutter (used for incorporating cold butter and flour together and other baking tasks).
    Or get a pastry cutter set like this with a pastry cutter, bowl scraper, pastry brush, and biscuit cutters.

Pie Baking Essentials

You will need some of the items listed above. Plus, these items.

  1. Rolling Pin or French Rolling Pin (used for rolling out doughs, cookie dough, or pie dough…).
  2. Pastry Mat With Measurements (for making pies and other pastries).
  3. Pie Pans (used for baking pies)
  4. Tart Pan (used for making tarts)
  5. Pie Weights

What will you really need for baking?

That depends on what you plan to bake and how often you bake. But the lists above will help you stock your kitchen with the essentials for baking! Start with a basic baking set and add to it each baking season or as needed. You will need measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing bowls, and a baking spoon and spatula.

Be sure to get hot pads or oven mitts for pulling items out of the hot oven. Trivets to protect your counters for cooling bread or… And cooling racks for cooling baked cookies. Cooling racks help the cooling process. They let the air circulate around the cookies and other baked goods.

Bakeware not to use!

  • Bakeware or baking supplies that are cracked or broken.
  • Rusted bakeware.
  • Sheet pans or baking tools that are warped.
  • Baking tools that you used for crafts! Keep baking tools only for baking.
    Example: Crafters are known to use rolling pins for clay. Or whisks for mixing things. Don’t intermix your baking tools!
  • Worn out hot pads! Don’t get burned.

Be sure to keep a burn cream handy in the kitchen for minor accidents!
