St Dalfour Spread Simple Recipe Ideas

St. Dalfour spread is a brand I have bought from Woolies many times because I like the taste and texture. I didn’t realise that the fruit spread is handcrafted in France, and made with no artificial additives, cane sugars, or preservatives. The focus of the product is to preserve the flavours and integrity of the fruit.

I was sent a box of St. Dalfour spreads from The Theory Crew to taste some of the flavours I hadn’t tried before.  There are 22 premium fruit spread flavours and all products are ethically sourced and Non-GMO Project verified. The flavours I tried are:

  • Strawberry
  • Royal Fig
  • Thick Apricot
  • French Grape
  • Orange Marmalade
  • Wild Blueberry

About St. Dalfour

St. Dalfour is handcrafted, pairing a family recipe with quintessentially French methods and the highest quality all-natural ingredients. Their history is long and delicious, starting after the turn of the 19th century in the vineyards of Aquitaine, amid the lush landscape tucked away between the Pyrenees Mountains and Bordeaux dubbed “the Garden of France”.

Handed down over three generations our recipe uses only 100% fruit with sun-ripened grape ‘must’ as a natural sweetener. Using grape must, the sweet by-product of winemaking, creates a healthier spread that allows the goodness of fruit to shine through.

Today, the fruit spreads are made in nearby Marmande, a region renowned for the superior fruit-growing terroir of its orchards and fields. Fruits are sourced from regional growers and still use the same slow and expensive small-batch, labour-intensive process. Keeping to the artisanship of the French heritage, the Maître Confiturier uses only the finest ingredients, gently cooking carefully selected fruit and fruit juices in traditional kettles.

Delicious, authentic French fruit spreads, sweetened with vineyard-ripened grape and fruit juices, and always made100% from fruit.

Easy and Delicious Recipes

The fruit spreads are fabulous for toast, but they also work so well in both sweet and savoury recipes. The consistency is thick and chunky, just the way I like.  I’ve been playing around with different recipes this week and I’ll share with you two super easy ones to get you started.

I made Fruity Pastry Twists which are fabulous for the lunch box or as part of a summer platter. I used the Thick Apricot Spread for the platter. The other recipe is a simple toasted fig and cheese sandwich using the Royal Fig Spread – so, so good!

Fruity Pastry Twists

This is a super simple recipe and the kids LOVED them.  You can use any fruit spread flavour, depending on how you want to serve them. I used the apricot for the summer platter and the strawberry flavour in the lunch box.

Ingredients

1 sheet Puff Pastry

1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

St. Dalfour Fruit Spread (any flavour)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 200°C.

  1. Lay a piece of puff pastry on a clean bench and sprinkle a little brown sugar over. I have made this without the brown sugar also and they work well. The brown sugar sprinkle gives a little more crispiness to the pastry.
  2. Flip the pastry over and press lightly so the brown sugar sticks. Peel off the backing.
  3. Cut the pastry into quarters.
  4. Then cut eat quarter into fifths so you have 20 thin strips.
  5. Add spread.
  6. I used the St. Dalfour Thick Apricot to add to my summer platter, but you can use any of the flavours.
  7. Take a strip and twist it up into a stick.
  8. Lay on a tray lined with baking paper and bake in 200°C oven for approximately 15 minutes until pastry twists are golden.

I tried this recipe with the Wild Blueberry, Strawberry and Thick Apricot and they were ALL delicious.

Yellow/Orange Summer Theme Platter

With the warmer months coming up, I decided to do a yellow/orange themed platter using the apricot pastries twists.

There are so many great orange and yellow foods available. I put this platter together with the apricot pastry twists, pumpkin dip, chilli cream cheese, cheddar, salami, crackers, carrot, yellow capsicum, ginger kisses, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, mango, passionfruit, dried apricots and honey roasted macadamias.

The fruity pastry twists are also great in the lunch box for a morning tea treat. My kids loved them.

Fig & Toasted Sandwich

The Royal Fig Spread is thick and delicious. I love fig and cheese together, so put together this classic combo into a toasted sandwich. Very-very happy! I used vintage cheddar cheese because I like that bite, and used a hint of chilli. Absolutely delicious and so easy! You can also use this fig and cheese combo on crackers with the fig spread and a slice of brie.

Ingredients

Bread (I used white)

Butter

St. Dalfour Royal Fig Spread

Chilli flakes

Vintage cheddar cheese (grated)

Instructions

  1. Butter two pieces of bread on one side.
  2. Add grated cheese and press into the buttered side of the bread lightly with an egg flipper.
  3. Use a little butter in a frypan and place one piece of bread cheese side down in the pan.
  4. Spread the fig spread over the bread in the pan.
  5. Sprinkle a little chilli flakes (optional).
  6. Add grated cheese.
  7. Place the other piece of bread on top, cheese side up and press down lightly with egg flipper.
  8. Flip the sandwich over once golden.
  9. Enjoy!
