Rainy Day Puddle Craft

Rainy days are a refreshing part of spring. When the rain falls, puddles form on the ground all around. The rain feeds the trees and helps the flowers bloom in spring! Although hopping in puddles can be fun when we’re dressed in rain gear, making some paper puddles and boots is a lot less muddy. If it’s a rainy day outside and you’re enjoying craft time, let’s get started making some puddles!

Things you’ll need

Use low tack tape to tape down a thick, white piece of paper to the table. In a small bowl, mix some water and some blue paint until you reach the desired shade for your puddle. We used water color paint, or you can use gouache.

Here comes the fun part! Use bottle caps to stamp blue paint onto the white paper. You can tap on the side of a paint brush to get more water droplet effects. Have fun making some watery textures and talking about rain. You can listen to the Super Simple Podcast while you work.

Once your rain painting is dry, cut out a puddle shape.

Glue your puddle onto a sheet of blue construction paper.

Cut out some boot shapes from your colorful or patterned paper. To make a boot shape, you can sketch out a capital letter ‘L’, layer two pieces of paper together, and cut them out. Round off the toe part of your boot with the scissors. Perfect! For added detail, cut strips of another color to make the soles of your rubber boots. Glue them in place.

Finally, glue the boots onto the puddle. Splash!
