DIY Toothbrush Holder – Organizing Toothbrushes and Toothpaste

DIY Toothbrush Holder – Organizing Toothbrushes and Toothpaste

With just a few easy tools and supplies, you can make a DIY toothbrush holder for your family to organize toothbrushes and toothpaste.

A lot of families keep toothbrushes and toothpaste in a pretty cup on their bathroom counter. Whether you have a large family (like we do) or simply don’t want to see all the toothbrushes and toothpaste on your counter, these DIY toothbrush holders are a fantastic organization hack!

Plus, it’s much more sanitary to keep your toothbrushes tucked away rather than out in the open where…particles…can land on them. Ick!

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to organize toothbrushes and toothpaste out of sight. Instead of trying to fit the toothbrushes in small bins in the drawers, under the sink, or in cups under the sink, place the toothbrushes inside individual cups and attach them to a cabinet door.

It’s so easy – and even better, it’s a system easy enough for even little ones to keep up with.

This simple little toothbrush organizing solution is the answer to my toothbrush storage woes and a huge part of how I finally got our bathroom vanity organized.

Why the toothbrush holder hack works

There are several reasons why this idea works so well.

  • The DIY toothbrush holder is easy to put together and doesn’t cost a lot of money.
  • It takes advantage of unused space on the back of the bathroom cabinet door.
  • The cups are firmly attached to the cabinet door, so they won’t tip over or get lost by little children running away with them. (Yes, that’s happened in our house.)
  • It keeps toothbrushes nice and clean.

Supplies needed for DIY toothbrush organizer

  • Inexpensive Plastic Cups – I found ours at Walmart for 50 cents, but solo cups should work too!
  • Labels – Make some with a label maker, or here’s a fun selection of free printable labels you can use.
  • Velcro Tape – If you only need one or two strips, I recommend this; If you’ll need more, this is probably a better deal.

Note: Make sure you choose plastic cups that don’t have a wide rim at the top, or the velcro won’t lie flat and stick well.

How to make a personalized toothbrush bolder

You’ll love how easy it is to make these toothbrush and toothpaste holders! Here are the three easy steps to follow:

1. Label the cups

This encourages the kids to put their toothbrushes and toothpaste away where they belong. Especially if you have multiple kids like me, you don’t want to skip this step!

2. Add velcro

Next, attach the velcro tape to the cup and inside your bathroom cabinet door. Easy enough; no DIY talent is required here.

3. Stick them to the door

Firmly attach the cup to the velcro on the door.

Do this for the remaining cups, and you’re done!

Now just put everyone’s toothbrushes, tubes of toothpaste, and even flossers in the designated cups.

The velcro does an excellent job of holding the cups in place. I waited a full month before posting this organizing toothbrush idea because I wanted to ensure the velcro held up to the wear and tear of my four monkeys. It does!

Our toothbrush cups show no signs of budging.

I like that this method doesn’t permanently attach the cups to the door either; you can remove them when you need to wash out the cups. My velcro did fine with a gentle wash and rinse.

I wouldn’t put it in the dishwasher, but you can wash it by hand and let the velcro dry before reattaching it.

My kids each have their own cup for their toothbrush, except for the little boys, who share. (Although I’ve heard rumblings about that – I’ll pick up another so they can each have their own.)

How many holders to make

Make as many as you need to in order to keep your family’s oral hygiene products organized. I only used one cup for our toothpaste.

I’ve tried getting toothpaste for each child, but my kids always mix it up and share anyways. I also created a separate cup for flossers.

After trying this out for over a month now, I am happy to report this cute DIY toothbrush holder is definitely the solution for organizing toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The kids know exactly where their toothbrushes and toothpaste belong now, and it’s stayed that way. SUCCESS!!

No more losing toothpaste caps! This is a fun way to keep the bathroom organized. You can even use the cups as a DIY electric toothbrush holder too.

And I have a {usually} tidy bathroom countertop. Now, clean? That’s a different story.

Other versions to make

You don’t have to use plastic cups. Here are some more variations you can make.

  • Larger Mason Jars: Use them to hold hair brushes and organize things like makeup tools.
  • PVC Pipes: PVC pipe toothbrush holders are cheap and easy to make too. Just make sure to grab an endcap for the pipe piece so your toothbrush doesn’t fall through. Decorate them with twine or stickers to make them look cute if you desire.
  • Towels Holder: Think of the possibilities that can go in cups! Larger cups can hold washcloths.
  • Cups for Bath Toys: Use cups or large-mouthed plastic bottles to hold smaller bath toys
  • Character Toothbrush Holder: What are your kids into? Use their favorite things to make them feel the fun in keeping their toothbrush organized and put away. We went with princesses for the girls and Spider Man for the boys, but choose what your kids love. For example, try a dinosaur toothbrush holder by using a dino-shaped cup to hold toothbrushes or simply decorate a cup with dino stickers.
  • Magnetic Toothbrush Storage: Attach a sheet of metal to the back of your cabinet door and attach the plastic cups with magnets instead of velcro.

With the right tools, you can make any upcycled toothbrush holder DIY that fits the needs of your family and your space!
