The vegan revolution has hit the food industry and it’s not surprising that over the years, it’s entering new sectors – such as fashion.
There is more fashion being advertised as vegan, cruelty-free and animal-friendly today than at any other time in human history, which makes sense given the rising consumer consciousness surrounding issues such as sustainability, climate change, health and wellbeing and ethics-based eating. The launch of Vegan Fashion Week in February 2019 and the publishing of the first ever book on vegan fashion, Vegan Style in July 2019, are just examples of the cruelty-free concepte we can expect from the fashion industry moving forward.

For premium quality, vegan wardrobe essentials such as tanks, fitted crew tees and boat-neck t-shirt dresses, Canadian brand Kotn has the goods. A certified B-Corporation, Kotn ethically produces men’s and women’s collections using 100% Egyptian cotton. All collections are designed in Canada, and responsibly made in the Nile Delta.
3. Boody
For vegan-friendly underwear, activewear, loungewear and sleepwear that’s super soft and super budget friendly, Boody is the brand for you. The brand produces everyday essentials for men, women and babies made from organic bamboo viscose in a Chinese factory that upholds high labour standards. No animals were killed in the making of Boody eco wear.
4. Conscious Step
For 100% vegan and animal-friendly socks, Conscious Step is the go-to brand. Made from Fairtrade Certified organic cotton and manufactured in ethical and sweatshop free conditions in India, these socks are super fun, comfy and they also give back! The brand was created as a social enterprise to bring awareness to global problems, and as such, partners with non-profits to provide direct positive impact, from planting trees, fighting for equality, feeding children, to fighting poverty. 5. Indosole
Made from 100% recycled tyres, Indosole’s animal-free footwear is eco-friendly, vegan-friendly, stylish and will never go out of style. Ideal footwear for nature lovers and beach goers, this certified B-Corporation has been producing eco thongs (flip flops) and slides for men and women since 2009. Indosole manufactures its range in Indonesia under fair labour conditions.
6. tentree
Canadian vegan label tentree is a sustainable lifestyle brand that produces casual wear and outdoor clothing for men and women that doesn’t break the bank. The company uses zero animal-based materials and focuses on eco-friendly fabrics such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and hemp. Designed in Canada, the garments are ethically manufactured in overseas factories that uphold high ethical standards and hold any of the following certifications:
- WRAP: Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production
- BSCI: Business for Social Compliance Initiative
- SA8000: Auditing Standard and Certification from SAI (Social Accountability International)
- Fair Trade or Fair Wear Foundation
The brand also plants 10 trees for every item purchased. To date, the brand has planted 43,837,630 trees!
7. Thought Clothing
Founded in 2007, Thought is a UK-based women’s ethical fashion company producing beautiful, timeless and contemporary collections using natural and sustainable fabrics including hemp, organic cotton, bamboo and TENCEL. While not 100% vegan, most of the collections are. This brand is best for loungewear, work attire and romantic, feminine dresses. Currently the brand is running a sales promotion with up to 60% off so if budget is tight, this is where you should start your online browsing.
8. Girlfriend Collective
Girlfriend Collective ethically manufactures size-inclusive activewear in sizes XXS to 6XL from made from recycled materials such as recycled nylon and recycled polyester, as well as ECONYL a fabric made from post-consumer bottles, recycled fishing nets and other plastic waste.
The garments are produced in a SA8000 certified facility in Vietnam. According to the brand which verifies fair working conditions and wages and zero forced and child labour. Prices start at US$28 for tanks, $32 for tees and $68 for leggings.

9. Threads 4 Thought
Established in 2006, Threads 4 Thought is a conscious lifestyle brand producing affordable everyday basics, workout wear and casual wear using earth-friendly and cruelty-free materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and Lenzing Modal. It partners with factories that hold the highest industrial certifications, ensuring rigorous ethical standards are maintained. This vegan-friendly brand is best for joggers, sweatshirts and hoodies.
10. People Tree
The pioneers of fair trade fashion, UK-based label People Tree was founded by ecopreneur Safia Minney over two decades ago. The brand built its reputation on ethically manufacturing wardrobe essentials and feminine collections using eco-friendly materials such as certified organic cotton, linen and TENCEL Lyocell. While the brand is not entirely vegan (as there are some garments made from merino wool) a majority of the collections are cruelty-free. People Tree also has a SALE section on its website with some items being discounted by 50-75% – this is the area we highly recommend you browse if you are cash-strapped.
